Description
This rebuild kit is for a pair of upper control arms.
Key Notes
Standard Delrin is a highly durable plastic-like compound that can endure significant mileage and time, provided it receives proper maintenance. However, if the bushings are not adequately greased or develop dry spots, they can produce a loud, unpleasant squeak.
PTFE-blended Delrin offers the advantage of being self-lubricating, resulting in reduced friction and noise. Though slightly more brittle than standard Delrin, it can still withstand substantial use over long periods with the right upkeep.
What’s Included
- (x8) 1.5″OD x 1.125″ID Bushings
- (x4) Inner Bushing Sleeves (Optional)
Instructions
- 1. Remove Components: Remove zerk fittings, inner bushing sleeves, and old delrin bushings
2. Clean: Thoroughly clean all old grease from the control arms - 3. Grease Application: Apply a fresh, thin layer of Prothane Super Grease to the inside of the control arm bushing sleeves
- 4. Install Bushings: Use an arbor press, dead blow hammer, or rubber mallet to press in the new bushings until they are fully seated
- 5. Check Fit: Test if the inner bushing sleeves can be pushed through the new bushings, by hand, with medium-light tension. If excessive force is needed, ream the bushings.
- 6. Reaming (if necessary):
- Use the proper size reamer to ream the bushings while they are installed on the control arms
- Spin the reamer fast but make slow passes
- After reaming, check again if the inner sleeve can slide through the bushing by hand. Repeat if needed
- 7. Debris Removal: If reaming was done, clean out any debris from between the bushings and inside the zerk fitting hole
- 8. Final Grease Application: Apply more Prothane Super Grease inside the reamed bushings, re-install the inner bushing sleeves and zerk fittings, thoroughly grease the outside of the bushings and the inside of the control arm pockets
